Awesome Charity-Driven Sports Tradition: Calgary Hitmen Teddy Bear Toss

This year was the 18th Anniversary of the Teddy Bear Toss in Calgary. Every year, after the first goal is scored, the fans in attendance throw teddy bears onto the ice. This year, the 16,912 fans threw 21,453 bears. Every bear is then given to needy children for the holidays. This nothing short of amazing. Over the years, Hitmen fans have donated over 213,000 bears!

Awesome Second Chance: Alan Greenberg's First Official At-Bat

In 2005, Alan Greenberg had his dream come true and got called up to the Major Leagues with the Chicago Cubs. Unfortunately, he got hit in the head with a 92 mph fastball on the first pitch he saw. Not only did he not record an official at-bat, he suffered a major injury and suffers from vertigo. He's been trying to get back into the Majors ever since and thanks to a social media campaign, he's getting his chance tonight. Been meaning to post this one since the end of game 5. It's always hard to make ads for events that haven't happened yet. The ringmaker was a nice way for Nike to pay tribute to the centerpiece of their basketball family. But this got me thinking...they also had to have an ad ready for Durant...and since the shirts of the losing team get sent to third world countries, does the Durant ad run in those countries as well?

While we're talking about LeBron and the Heat, this ad from the NBA in their "Big" campaign was pretty good too.

On its own, 'My Time is Now' is an entertaining and exciting cinematic ad comparable to Nike Football's 'Write the Future' spot during the last World Cup. But, this also has a very nice interactive feature on YouTube. Click here to check it out. If Neil was as popular when I was a kid as he is now, I'd probably be a scientist. I always dreamed of going to NASA Space Camp and a little bit of my inner child dies when I think about kids in the future not being able to dream about the possibilites of what they can achieve and the dream of making science fiction reality.

Awesome Ride: Bo Bikes Bama

From April 24th to April 28th, Bo Jackson biked 300 miles across Alabama to raise $1 million for the Governor's Emergency Relief Fund, which helps victims of the massive tornado outbreak they suffered in 2011. Bo's a little more than halfway toward his fundraising goal. Check out his site here, and either donate to the cause or bid on some great items in the auction. There's a couple days left for bidding.

This is another spot I had bookmarked for months. This ad ran last year and while it's another graphic PSA, it's amazingly effective. Incredible acting by the child also helps to drive the message home.

If you know who Sasha Grey is, you know where this PSA for equal pay for women is going. But it's daring and worth watching.

Awesome Robot: Panasonic's Evolta completes an Ironman Triathlon

This is another story I've been meaning to for months. I've only been able to do sprint triathlons so far and this little robot (in three different versions) was able to complete a full Ironman. Impressive.

EVOLTA Swim Robot finished the 3.8km swim in 5hours and 36 minutes at 5:36pm on October 23.

EVOLTA Bike Robot finished biking 180.2km in 97 hours and 42 minutes at 7:19pm on October 27.

EVOLTA Run Robot finished the 42.2km run in 63 hours and 38 minutes at 10:56am on October 30.

The official result of the 230km triathlon challenge was 166 hours and 56 minutes.

Awesome Story: Caine's Arcade by Nirvan Mullick

Just saw this on Devour it's one of the best stories I've seen in a very long time. Caine Monroy is a 9 year old from East LA who literally built his own arcade out of cardboard in the front of his dad's auto parts shop. The amazing thing is, because his games are built with the passion and joy that only a child with his imagination could possess, they look more fun than most of the $1billion video games that get released every year.

Personally, I loved the first series featuring New York fans Alec Baldwin & John Krasinski. Awesome Act of Kindness: Keep Aaron Cutting

Speaking of cleaning out bookmarks, this was bookmark #1 from August of 2011. It's an amazing story. After the London riots, many small businesses were left in ruins. One of them was Aaron's barbershop. Aaron had been cutting hair in the same location for decades and couldn't afford to fix his shop. So, a group of interns from BBH in London decided to tell his story to help raise the money he needed. All in all, they raised 35,000 pounds, which is over $55,000. Truly amazing. Awesome Promotion: Uber Cab - ubercade

If you're in a major city and require a level of class that a regular cab can't deliver, Uber Cab is the way to go. I use it sometimes in San Francisco. It does cost more, but it's worth it. This was an awesome promotion idea for their Washington D.C. launch. It's just sad that it wasn't exposed to the masses, which I guess doesn't make it that 'promotional'. Oh well, awesome idea!

Um, yeah. Definitely not trying to fall into the typical male target market (which this ad is obviously targeting), but this is one of the sexiest ads I've seen in a long time. The throwback to classic America gives it just the right amount of class too.

These are some great ads directed by Wes Anderson for the Hyundai Azera. It's amazing how 30 seconds of awesomeness can make average benefits that most cars have seem really special.
