Released the day before Tiger makes his return in the Masters, this spot featuring the voice of Tiger's late father couldn't have been done any better. It's simple. It's emotional. It's humbling. Well done W+K, Nike, & Tiger.
This (and the others in the campaign) was apparently directed by Tim and Eric. So what does it say when Tim and Eric's totally oddball sensibility is featured in a pretty mainstream commercial. Will Tim and Eric have to work even harder to be subversive? No doubt.
Side-note: A lot of companies attempt to update their brand with little success. Usually brands aren't that flexible. This Old Spice work is, to my mind, the exception to the norm. Can anyone else think of a brand that's managed to a left turn this successfully?
I can only think of the failures. Like that recent Wendy's work with the people running around and shouting for meat. Dang that stuff was ill-conceived.
